Beloit Woman Seriously Injured in Accident

A young Beloit woman was seriously injured in a pedestrian-vehicle accident that took place late last night in the Aggieville section of Manhattan. Kansas State University student Amber Englebert, daughter of Leon and Terri Englebert of Beloit, was struck by a vehicle at 11:37 last night at the intersection of Bluemont and 12th Streets.

Captain Kurt Moldrup from the Riley County Police Department said eyewitnesses at the accident scene say Englebert was alone westbound crossing Bluemont while occupied with her phone when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 19-year old James Young of Manhattan who had just turned onto Bluemont from 11th Street.

Englebert was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center where we have been told she is in the ICU unit with substantial facial injuries.

Captain Moldrup said the incident is still under investigation and that no citations have been issued. He also said the stretch of Bluemont, where the accident happened, has the highest number of traffic accidents in Riley County annually.

About Mike Schrant

Mike is one of those guys who has spent nearly a lifetime trying to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up. He has split time as a broadcaster and educator having first worked in radio in the early 1970’s while attending junior college. The two careers are directly connected because many of the 25 years as an educator were spent teaching broadcast journalism at the high school and college levels. Mike is married and has three adult children (no grandchildren yet) and enjoys sports, debating politics, gardening, landscaping-hauling rocks, and swapping stories with the "good old boys".
