Local fire units were called out to a fire this morning that destroyed a large shop building located a little over 2-miles north and west of Cawker City. The metal shop building roughly 50-by-100-feet in size is owned by Ron Schaefli.
Among other things, the building was said to have had a semi-truck and about 400-gallons of diesel fuel stored inside it.
Fortunately the fire was contained to the large metal building. It was first discovered by a hired hand this morning at about 8:30.
The fire was described as intense –forcing the responding fire units to make several trips into Cawker City with tankers to get water.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The State Fire Marshall is expected to be on the scene sometime tomorrow.
